    <title>The Wild World of Archaeology...</title>

    <content type="html">&lt;p&gt;The Lambchop has officially returned from the archaeological field until Pennsic.&amp;nbsp; Digging that shower sump is going to seem like easy mode without having to screen all of the dirt.&amp;nbsp; Some wild stories from this brief project up in the cosmopolitan hills of south-western virginia.&amp;nbsp; Police, trips to the ER,&amp;nbsp;partying across the border,&amp;nbsp;treacherous trails, a wrecked truck, and a trashed immune system.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;My fighting rig is still crap, and I haven't been in armor for months now.&amp;nbsp; So I'm a little concerned about how the stick swinging is going to go.&amp;nbsp; Have any heavy fighters been showing up to Thursday practices?&lt;/p&gt;</content>

    <content type="html">&lt;p&gt;So.&amp;nbsp; Took a machete to a significant mass of God's great green flora today out in the field, or more precisely, out in the woods.&amp;nbsp; We've been finding a whole lot of nothing out in the poison ivy-rife fields of Pennsylvania.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Had an alarming experience last night going out:&amp;nbsp; Mid-bar expedition, My DD passed off her duty to another member of the crew, let's call him "Mr. Clean," who proceeded to get trashed.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; Various other antics ensued.&amp;nbsp; The net result was another not-entirely-sober member of the crew driving everyone home, with one passenger rolling a joint in the back seat, another shouting racously, and "Mr. Clean" maniacally slamming a machete into the truck's dashboard repeatedly.&amp;nbsp; It was all in good fun till our driver parked the company truck into the side of one of the other trucks in the hotel parking lot.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Archaeology is nuts.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;One of the crew has been working on making a bow from a sage tree.&amp;nbsp; It's really coming along.&amp;nbsp; He's got the stave formed and is going to tiller it now.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Going to see the Butthole Surfers in Philly in two days.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;That is all.&amp;nbsp; You may return to your regularly-scheduled broadcasting.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/p&gt;</content>

    <content type="html">&amp;nbsp;So I'm up in PA.&amp;nbsp; Thoughts...&amp;nbsp; I have been introduced to the concept of the Rustbelt.&amp;nbsp; Economically speaking, everything up here seems to be dying a slow, decaying death.&amp;nbsp; When I sit down to jot down my experiences, I'm not sure where to start.&amp;nbsp; The things I write seem not to capture the nuances that I'm seeking to express.&amp;nbsp; I spent a long weekend up here with no work, hanging out with my friend Cameron.&amp;nbsp; There is not a whole lot to do up here.&amp;nbsp; We talked to lots of random strangers, which was fun.&amp;nbsp; We encountered perhaps the only foreign-born resident of Bloomsburg, PA last night at the bar.&amp;nbsp; We encountered some attractive young ladies but had our romantic pursuits cut short by the early closing of the bar.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Tomorrow I head back out to the site.&amp;nbsp; A pair of looming, collosal cooling towers stare down upon our scrabbling in the dirt.&amp;nbsp; Last week an air raid siren split the air while we were laboring out in the fields.&amp;nbsp; The sirens of fire trucks soon followed, dismissing the possibility of impending nuclear holocaust, but it was a bit of an eerie experience.&amp;nbsp; I would like to upload some pictures, but it seems to be more of a pain in the ass at the moment than I'm willing to deal with.&amp;nbsp; We spent last week walking recently plowed fields, dropping flags when we found artifacts... even when the artifacts in question were clay pigeon fragments.&amp;nbsp; Apparently those can sometimes be "historical."&amp;nbsp; I spent most of my time collecting said artifacts and placing them in labeled bags.&amp;nbsp; We used long tape measures and right angles to map out the locations.&amp;nbsp; There's something viscerally satisfying to me about creating those sorts of maps.&amp;nbsp; In some ways it reminds me of drawing dungeons for D&amp;amp;D.&lt;br /&gt;&amp;nbsp;</content>

    <content type="html">&lt;p&gt;The Bedford Boys laid the smacketh down upon some poor souls this weekend.&amp;nbsp; More generally Atlantia made a grand showing up at Black Stone Raids.&amp;nbsp; The event very much felt like the Kingdom Crusades of bygone years.&amp;nbsp; 200 heavy fighters hit the field, and afterwards libations were passed about a'plenty.&amp;nbsp; I had a blast with my buds "Corn-fed" and "Corn-bread."&amp;nbsp; I was also anointed Atlantia's first Finnish-Viking-Thumb-Wrestling champion after delivering a mortal blow to His Grace Duke Valharic.&lt;/p&gt;</content>

    <lj:music>I think I hear my watch ticking somewhere.</lj:music>
    <content type="html">Anytime I do anything remotely real (i.e. tasks not involving Mr. Laptop), it&amp;nbsp;reminds me how much more badass all the people alive before me really were.&amp;nbsp; Intrepid colonials (small pox-laden blankets aside)&amp;nbsp;cleared huge&amp;nbsp;tracts&amp;nbsp;of land (yes, huge) without the aid of power tools.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; It amazes me.&amp;nbsp; I was out clearing out my parents' garden so that they can plant things.&amp;nbsp; I volunteered to till and make beds, etc.&amp;nbsp; I also took it upon myself to clear out two stumps which have been sitting in the garden for a couple years now.&amp;nbsp; I got rid of one of them this afternoon, well, most of it anyway.&amp;nbsp; It took a lot of hacking away with an axe.&amp;nbsp; We silly medieval combatants don't need plate armor;&amp;nbsp;we just need cellulose in our cells.&amp;nbsp; Oh yeah, also, it bothers me that carcinogens are apparently only real to the State of California.</content>
